Small Business Startup Guide

Starting a business of your own is most rewarding and satisfying. This is because this might have been one thing you may have been dreaming about for a long while. You may be looking for the ‘right’ time. Well let me tell you there is never a ‘right time’ to start your business.
Starting a business requires determination and motivation. Choosing the right business could be quite tasking, considering the vast opportunities that are available. It is quite important for you to know what you are passionate about. This can be a very good indicator to knowing what business to pursue.
When you must have determined what business to pursue the next step is to write a business plan that is after you must have done a bit of research – a survey as to the viability of the business.

With a business plan you are able to get a better understanding of the type of business you are about to go into. The place of a business plan cannot be over emphasized. A business plan answers The What – Business Idea, Who – Proposed/target market, The how – Marketing plan, sale forecast of the business as well as funding required.

You will require a business name. Having the right name for your business is very important. It helps to distinguish you from other businesses. It is also very important that you chose the right name for the business industry you want to venture into. I know of an entrepreneur who had to change his business name because people thought he was in the interior designing business. Whereas he was into Information Technology all because he had a business name that wasn’t quite right.

Choosing the right Business structure is very important as well. It is very important to bare this in mind when registering your business. Your business structure will affect your business liability, ability to get funding and tax.

Business location:
As a business owner to be, you must decide from the beginning where your business will be located. Will it be an online business, a bricks and mortar shop or a home business?
A business lady had an office outside of her home but her clients had a hard time getting to the office due to traffic and as such she ended up meeting them at cafes and restaurants in order to keep appointments. Eventually she had to close the office since she was hardly ever there. Her office is now set up at home.
You have to be certain of what will work for you based on your peculiarities. Some people really need to set up offices outside their home so the business can be seen to be serious and also to avoid distraction.

Remember location is very important. There is no use setting up a business when your target market is not able to access your product. Without sales you are not in business.
