Plan to Succeed

Do you own your own business? Or are you planning to set a business up soon? Whatever stage you are at a business plan can make it much easier to achieve the success you desire.

Why Plan
If you create a business plan you need to spend several hours thinking about your aims for the business. Focus on where you see the business going over the next five years. This makes it much easier to see the steps you need to take to get there. A business plan is also vital if you are looking for business finance. Your plan will show investors where their money is needed and where their return will come from.

How to Plan
A business plan is made up of a number of sections. You need to include:

  •    Your business’s history and background
  •    Details of what your business offers
  •    The market for your business and how you will market it
  •    Details of your business premises
  •    Capital expenditure needed for your business
  •    Details of your business’s staff
  •    How your business is set up legally
  •    Your business finances including cash flow, break even analysis and sales forecasts
  •    How you plan for business emergencies

You can also include your CV, advertising and promotional literature, letters or contracts from prospective customers, more financial information and references. Once you have written the plan create a one page summary too. If you need more help, search the net for Business Plan Templates.

Putting it into Practice

Make your business plan something you use on a regular basis, not a document stuck in a drawer. Use it to create annual and monthly plans and targets. And remember to update it regularly.
